Milling with Diamond Tools

vhf has extended their range of tools by diamond attached milling tools. These milling cutters are provided with one or two polycrystalline diamonds (PCD) which consist of sintered unit crystals. They distinguish themselves by an extremely fine granulation and highest resistance to wear. The cut edges of the workpieces will look like polished.

The extremely hard PCD cutting edges of these tools which are attached to a carbide shank can lead to a much more productive manufacturing process, especially when working on materials like non-ferrous metals or plastics. Although their price is higher than that of pure carbide tools, the user will benefit from their multiple endurance.

Another advantage is that coolants are no longer necessary for processing most kinds of materials. Karin Koizlik, vhf product manager for tools, explains the benefits of this technique: "Dry processing makes the production of our customers particularly cost-saving, clean and efficient. After all, the user does not only save cooling liquid, the dry chips can also be extracted immediately."

PCD milling tools are available with one or two cutting edges. A single tooth cutter is mainly used for working on plastics or wood. Double tooth cutters are especially suitable for aluminium, ceramics, compound materials and reinforced plastics.
